TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yeremia 6:11-12

Konteks

6:11 I am as full of anger as you are, Lord, 1

I am tired of trying to hold it in.”

The Lord answered, 2

“Vent it, then, 3  on the children who play in the street

and on the young men who are gathered together.

Husbands and wives are to be included, 4

as well as the old and those who are advanced in years.

6:12 Their houses will be turned over to others

as will their fields and their wives.

For I will unleash my power 5

against those who live in this land,”

says the Lord.

Yeremia 7:20

Konteks
7:20 So,” the Lord God 6  says, “my raging fury will be poured out on this land. 7  It will be poured out on human beings and animals, on trees and crops. 8  And it will burn like a fire which cannot be extinguished.”

Yeremia 9:9-11

Konteks

9:9 I will certainly punish them for doing such things!” says the Lord.

“I will certainly bring retribution on such a nation as this!” 9

The Coming Destruction Calls For Mourning

9:10 I said, 10

“I will weep and mourn 11  for the grasslands on the mountains, 12

I will sing a mournful song for the pastures in the wilderness

because they are so scorched no one travels through them.

The sound of livestock is no longer heard there.

Even the birds in the sky and the wild animals in the fields

have fled and are gone.”

9:11 The Lord said, 13

“I will make Jerusalem 14  a heap of ruins.

Jackals will make their home there. 15

I will destroy the towns of Judah

so that no one will be able to live in them.”

Yeremia 13:14

Konteks
13:14 And I will smash them like wine bottles against one another, children and parents alike. 16  I will not show any pity, mercy, or compassion. Nothing will keep me from destroying them,’ 17  says the Lord.”

[6:11]  1 tn Heb “I am full of the wrath of the Lord.”

[6:11]  2 tn These words are not in the text but are implicit from the words that follow. They are supplied in the translation for clarity.

[6:11]  3 tn Heb “Pour it out.”

[6:11]  4 tn Heb “are to be captured.”

[6:12]  5 tn Heb “I will reach out my hand.” This figure involves both comparing God to a person (anthropomorphism) and substitution (metonymy) where hand is put for the actions or exertions of the hand. A common use of “hand” is for the exertion of power or strength (cf. BDB 290 s.v. יָד 2 and 289-90 s.v. יָד 1.e(2); cf. Deut 34:12; Ps 78:42; Jer 16:21).

[7:20]  6 tn Heb “Lord Yahweh.” The translation follows the ancient Jewish tradition of substituting the Hebrew word for God for the proper name Yahweh.

[7:20]  7 tn Heb “this place.” Some see this as a reference to the temple but the context has been talking about what goes on in the towns of Judah and Jerusalem and the words that follow, meant as a further explanation, are applied to the whole land.

[7:20]  8 tn Heb “the trees of/in the field and the fruit of/in the ground.”

[9:9]  9 tn Heb “Should I not punish them…? Should I not bring retribution…?” The rhetorical questions function as emphatic declarations.

[9:9]  sn See 5:9, 29. This is somewhat of a refrain at the end of a catalog of Judah’s sins.

[9:10]  10 tn The words “I said” are not in the text, but there is general agreement that Jeremiah is the speaker. Cf. the lament in 8:18-9:1. These words are supplied in the translation for clarity. Some English versions follow the Greek text which reads a plural imperative here. Since this reading would make the transition between 9:10 and 9:11 easier it is probably not original but a translator’s way of smoothing over a difficulty.

[9:10]  11 tn Heb “I will lift up weeping and mourning.”

[9:10]  12 tn Heb “for the mountains.” However, the context makes clear that it is the grasslands or pastures on the mountains that are meant. The words “for the grasslands” are supplied in the translation for clarity.

[9:11]  13 tn The words “the Lord said” are not in the text, but it is obvious from the content that he is the speaker. These words are supplied in the translation for clarity.

[9:11]  15 tn Heb “a heap of ruins, a haunt for jackals.”

[13:14]  16 tn Or “children along with their parents”; Heb “fathers and children together.”

[13:14]  17 tn Heb “I will not show…so as not to destroy them.”
